MORRIS'S STORY

Morris Eason was born in 1958 in Brooklyn, New York, the youngest of three children. Having lived in Alabama for nearly 8 years, his family moved to the Woodland neighborhood of Cleveland, Ohio. It was there in this racially mixed neighborhood where Morris was bullied by other children, causing him to avoid attending school for fear of physical harm.

Eventually, to escape the violence of his urban in the East Side of Cleveland neighborhoods, Morris doctored his birth certificate so he could enlist in the Army. He was only 15 when he entered basic training at Fort Polk in Louisiana.

While at Fort Polk, Morris found himself once again in the situation of being bullied for his size and for being African American. In a fight with a much larger soldier, Morris threw a punch that would send his abuser to the ground. This altercation was witnessed by the Fort Polk boxing instructor who then recruited Morris into training.

Soon after his training at Fort Polk, Morris was stationed in Germany where he became one of the top United States Army European welter weight fighters, winning many bouts and gaining a reputation as a contender.

After his service in the Army, Morris returned to Cleveland where he began to fight in Amateur and eventually Professional bouts.

During his boxing career, Morris ventured into a lifestyle of drugs, alcohol and crime which nearly took his life. He was sentenced to prison at the Mansfield State Penitentiary on two separate occasions.  Eventually he reformed his life through faith and dedicated himself to serving God as an ordained minister. But Morris was still not through with boxing.

At age 44, Morris returned to the ring, competing in the Toughman competition and becoming the Regional Champion and a National Finalist in the early 2000’s, posting a record of 24 wins and 7 losses in the ring.

Along with an active ministry feeding the homeless and providing Court mandated life coaching and mentorship to at-risk and troubled youth, Morris opened a gym as a certified boxing trainer whose experience exceeds over 30 years in the sport of boxing.

Morris is committed to helping others achieve new heights both mentally and physically and routinely trains people of different ages and conditions, including boot camps for children, amateur boxers, professional athletes as well as people with injuries, chronic physical and emotional illnesses.

In 2018, after his 16-year old daughter was repeatedly bullied about her race at two different schools, Morris decided to expand his work into public and private schools, as an advocate for anti-bullying. His motivational talks and stories challenge students to become a non-violent hero and end bullying.
